Knock, knock!?

an Artistic Score Engraving update from July 2024

Dear all,

Welcome back to the monthly update. Here in Italy, summer has just arrived, leaving behind a rainy Spring. This instalment will be very brief: only one edition was published, and May was a very busy month. Besides, I’ve been running this series of newsletters for more than two years, and reaction has been minimal. Very few messages, comments, engagement, which makes me ask: is this something that interests you and that I should keep doing? Is it bringing any value into your lives?

It certainly takes time to compile so, if it is not appreciated, I will focus my energies on something else. After all, in business, if what you do doesn’t get traction, you need to change something.

NEWS

Blog posts

Since coming back from KSA, I have spent a lot of time and energy to give Zarqa (the Arabian opera) the spotlight it deserved, especially in my country. Please find the three articles, in English and Italian, here:

  1. From the Sands of Time: EN | IT
  2. Staging History: EN | IT
  3. Love Prevails: EN | IT

From this month, I will go back to my usual Dorico-Serbian Language-macOS article routine.

New edition

The Dotzauer Project has reached its 11th instalment, with the Pot-pourri, Op. 21, for cello and guitar. If you’ve already joined the mailing list, you will receive the free excerpt and discount as Week 51’s gift. For anyone riding along for one more week—that is, one year—, there is a nice surprise in store!

You can find the edition here, and watch the promo video here. Here’s an excerpt:

Upcoming editions

I’ve been working on a big chamber music piece by Dotzauer, about 70 pages of just score, and it’s being exhausting because of the inconsistencies within the source itself, but I will manage!

Next will be a couple more songs by Piatti, a previously unpublished piano piece, and possibly a surprise from our dear Bréval.

PUBLISHING

As you know, I’m present on most digital platforms. One of them is the mobile app (or web app) nkoda. After six months of adding my catalogue there, performance has been very disappointing. If you use the service actively, I would kindly ask you to give a look at my scores. You can do so by searching “Artistic Score Engraving”, or “Dotzauer” or “Piatti”, or any title in my catalogue.

Honestly, I’m hating myself for doing this, but the people at nkoda told me that a publisher is the only one to blame for his lack of success on their platform. Furthermore, they’re not being helpful with the creation of promotional banners & graphics, which I see other editors have on their websites.

On the other side of the river, the good folks at Stretta Music have always been very helpful and open with all my requests, even if general performance has not been good. Still, I value their being kind, courteous, and willing to help. If you have an account there, you could check my scores there.

Personal growth

A wise man whom I follow wrote in his latest newsletter how it is important to learn something new every day. That’s why I’m devoting 15–25 minutes per day to learning something I do not know, whatever the field.

Bottom Line

That’s it for today, I told you it would’ve been brief. I may have stolen about 2-2.5 minutes of your time, not much more.

You can join my mailing list here, browse my editions here, and check what’s available for print in the HNE Store.

My YouTube channel, finally, contains video renditions of most of my editions.

Until next time, thank you.
